KOCHI

: The joint action council of various online taxi drivers' unions on Friday called off the indefinite strike, which began on November 27, following a meeting chaired by labour commissioner A Alexander.

The unions called of the strike after the labour commissioner directed representatives of app-cab aggregators Uber and Ola to submit proposals on fare hike based on cost of living index and fuel price to regional joint labour commissioner before December 30.

They have also been asked to submit fresh proposals on revised incentives and continue providing them existing benefits till new structure is finalised. The meeting also decided that GST should be billed from passengers.

The drivers' union said it decided to end the strike as the government has assured them of finding a solution to the long-standing issue. "The companies have agreed for a fare hike of Re 1 and incentives up to Rs 150 per day as an interim measure," said Jackson Varghese, president, joint action council of online drivers' unions.
