Two dists on yellow alert for today

Kochi: With the low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal likely to subsequently develop into a cyclonic storm over the region by Wednesday, there will be an increase in rainfall activity in the state. The India meteorological department (IMD) has issued an isolated heavy rainfall warning for two districts. Yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall of 7-11cm has been sounded for Pathanamthitta and Idukki for Wednesday and Thursday. Wayanad is also on yellow alert on Thursday.There’s a warning for thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty winds speed reaching 30-40kmph very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala till May 11.According to the 24-hour rainfall recorded on Tuesday morning, Myladumpara received 7cm rainfall while Ernakulam South and Palluruthy received 3cm each. Maximum temperature rose in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Palakkad districts. Kozhikode recorded the highest maximum temperature of 36.7°C. Skymet weather said that south Peninsula continues to be weather active pocket amid significant drop from plains of most other parts of the country. Apart from coastal Karnataka, Kerala has been the least rainy during the pre-monsoon so far. While many other sub divisions have observed large excess rainfall, Kerala and Mahe have recorded a shortfall of 13% between March 1 and 9. As a routine pre-monsoon, thundershowers over Kerala are supposed to be the heaviest along the west coast. Moderate showers are likely over most parts of Kerala in the next four-five days.
