Movie piracy racket busted: Two arrested

Kochi: City cyber police on Friday arrested two members of Tamil Rockers gang for allegedly creating pirated copies of latest movies, including ARM and Vettaiyan. The arrested persons were identified as Praveen Kumar (30) and Kumareshan (29), both from Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu. They were arrested from Bengaluru.
Cyber police also shut down the operations of their website named ‘onetamilmv'. According to police, they created the pirated copy of the Malayalam hit ARM from a theatre in Coimbatore, while they created and uploaded a pirated version of Vettaiyan, which was released on Thursday, at Bengaluru. The duo was brought to Kochi.
A senior officer said the accused used to upload the films in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, etc., to their website as soon as the films were released. Police said that prima facie, the accused earned revenue from advertisements on the website. Officials said that an investigation was ongoing to identify if more persons were connected to the racket.
Police said that the arrested accused were charged with relevant provisions of the Copyright Act and the Cinematograph Act. The sections are non-bailable, and the accused would be produced in court, said an official.
