Two arrested for forging ID cards

Kochi: Ernakulam rural police arrested two persons for creating forged identification documents, including fake Aadhaar cards, in Perumbavoor. Arrested individuals have been identified as Harijul Islam, 26, and Raihan Udheen, 20, both from Assam. Police raided shops where forged ID cards were being created. Raid was conducted as part of Operation Clean Perumbavoor, a special drive launched by rural police to crack down on crime in Perumbavoor.
They were arrested by a special investigation team led by Perumbavoor ASP. The accused were allegedly creating documents for migrant workers. "They used to either change the name on Aadhaar cards or change last four digits of Aadhaar cards. The accused claim that they were mostly being used to make multiple bookings for train journeys. However, it is a possibility that such cards were used for obtaining SIM cards. These cards may also be sold to illegal migrants. A probe is ongoing into these angles, even though we have not found any evidence to confirm this," said an officer.
Fake Aadhaar cards were seized from shops run by the accused, along with laptops, printers, mobile phones and approximately Rs 50,000. Police have expanded their investigation to determine if similar fake cards were being produced in other shops as well.
