Tripunithura: After a decade-long wait, Tripunithura municipality-owned shopping complex, with a twin multiplex theatre, will be partially functional soon. Two restaurants are set to be open on the ground floor of the building. The municipality had held the retendering of the building on Nov 5, 2025.
One of the hotel groups has already started furnishing and other essential works. It will be inaugurated in the first week of March. "There is a huge business potential here as it is located at a junction where three major roads meet — one towards Kochi-Dhanushkodi highway, another towards Kottayam and the third towards Ernakulam," said Jayaraj, one of the partners in Saravana Bhavan, one of the restaurant groups opening here.

Though there is a growing demand amongst bidders, the municipality couldn't finish the tendering process for other floors. "It will take a few more months before we can continue the retendering process as a major theft occurred in the building soon after the retendering," said Tripunithura municipality R Anilkumar, assistant secretary. Electrical cables were reportedly stolen from the building. Now the municipality is in the process of reinstalling them.
A proposal was sent to the electrical wing of the public works department and they are assessing the proposal to reinstall the entire electrical wiring in the mall and theatre complex, Anilkumar said. "We are receiving several inquiries regarding the availability of space in the mall. Once the restaurants start functioning, we expect more shop owners will be interested," added Anilkumar.
The twin multiplex theatre-cum-shopping mall, with nearly 50,000sq ft rental area, was inaugurated in 2015. At the time of inauguration, the mall was named Karunakaran Memorial Shopping Mall. However, when LDF-led council came to power, they changed the name to T K Ramakrishnan Memorial Shopping Mall.
