Treatment to Boby Chemanur: Senior jail officials booked
Kochi: Infopark police have registered an FIR against senior jail department officials who allegedly accorded special privileges to businessman Boby Chemmanur during his incarceration.
The FIR named then jail DIG P Ajaykumar, jail superintendent Raju Abraham, four identifiable men and two women as accused. The FIR stated that handing over money to a person in remand was illegal. On Jan 10, Ajaykumar visited Chemmanur along with accused 3 to 8 in the office of Abraham. A Rs 200 note was handed over to Chemmanur, backdating the payment to expedite the issuance of a telephone card, violating jail rules, the FIR said.
Both officials were earlier suspended pending enquiry. The case pertains to the incidents that occurred when Chemmanur was arrested and housed in the district jail at Kakkanad for making inappropriate remarks against an actor.
If processed through the standard jail system, Chemmanur would have had to wait until Monday to receive the card.
The FIR was registered under Section 86 (1) of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services (Management) Act 2010 on Monday.
