KOCHI: Mulanthuruthy police on Tuesday arrested three youths in connection with the murder of Joji Mathai (22) of Perumbilly near Mulanthuruthy on Monday.
The arrested were identified as Midhun T P (25) of North Paravur, M C Sarath (27) of Udayamperoor and Athul (23) of Mulanthuruthy. Another accused, Vishnu (25) of Eroor is still at large.
They were arrested after tracing their hide out near Rajarshi Memorial High School, Vadavukodu.
However, Vishnu managed to escape from the hideout. All the three were produced in the court and were remanded in judicial custody. Police said the accused dragged Joji out of his house and stabbed him on the neck and chest following a heated argument between them on Tuesday. Though Joji was rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to injuries. Joji’s father too was injured when he tried to stop the accused from attacking his son. He is admitted to a hospital. Police said all the accused were history-sheeters.
The argument that ended in the murder was over a Facebook post by the victim about a friend of the accused. The assailants fled the scene leaving behind the knife and their motorcycles after the attack.
Following that DCP (Ernakulam rural) K Karthick had formed a special investigation team to probe the case and nab the accused.
The team led by Puthencruz DSP Ajay Nath comprised of Mulanthuruthy inspector K M Muhammed Nizar, sub-inspectors E V Raju, Jijomon Thomas, T K Krishnakumar, assistant sub-inspector Jose K Philip, senior civil police officers Anilkumar and Harish and civil police officer Sandeep.
