Three people suffer sunburn in Palakkad & Idukki

Palakkad/Idukki: Three people suffered sunburn in separate incidents in Palakkad and Idukki on Wednesday as intense heat conditions continued to prevail across the state. Unnikrishnan, 47, a newspaper agent from Karippode in Chittur, sustained burn injuries following prolonged exposure to the sun while standing in the open. He was admitted to the Vadavannur family health centre and discharged after receiving primary treatment and observation.In another incident, Sharafuddeen, a bakery owner from Kulappulli near Shoranur, suffered sunburn while standing outside his shop. He was administered treatment at the Vaniyamkulam primary health centre.In Idukki, a worker suffered sunburn while loading timber onto a truck. The incident occurred when Saji, 54, of Paruthivila House in Chemmannu, Elappara, while he was at wok at Vakkakkad. He experienced severe burning on his shoulder. Following this, he was admitted to a private hospital in Elappara where it was confirmed it as a case of sunstroke. Saji was discharged later.Meanwhile, the health authorities have warned that heatwave-like conditions are prevailing in Palakkad district and advised vulnerable sections — children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with comorbidities — to avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Officials also cautioned against leaving children and elderly persons unattended inside parked vehicles, citing serious health risks. In Malampuzha, the mercury touched 40°C on Wednesday. In Idukki, the health department has advised those engaged in outdoor work to take necessary precautions. Mercury soars, Palakkad records 41.1°C Kochi: Palakkad recorded a maximum temperature of 41.1°C temperature on Wednesday, becoming the highest temperature recorded in the past two years. It was 4.7°C departure from the normal. Kollam also reported 4.7°C departure from the normal on Wednesday by recording maximum temperature of 39.8 degree Celsius.The highest temperature recorded in Kerala was 41.9°C reported in Palakkad in 2016. The district reported 41.4 °C in 2024 and 41.1°C In 2019.Meanwhile, IMD issued yellow warning for hot and humid weather which is very likely to prevail over Kerala till Friday. Palakkad is likely to experience maximum temperature of around 40°C at isolated places and Kollam and Kottayam with 30 and 38°C. All districts except Idukki and Wayanad are likely to see maximum temperature hovering over 3-4 °C above normal temperature till Friday. Rain or thundershower is most likely to occur at one or two places in the state till April 28. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on April 23 and 26.
