Three lawyers, 2 district judges set to become HC judges

KOCHI: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of three high court lawyers and two district judges as judges of the Kerala high court.
The collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Supreme Court judges Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph made the recommendations on Tuesday.
While the candidature of seven high court lawyers were considered by the collegium, recommendations have been made for appointing only three of them.

They are V G Arun, N Nagaresh and P V Kunhikrishnan. Nagaresh is presently the assistant solicitor general at the HC.
Arun enrolled as a lawyer in 1989 and has been practising at the HC since 1991. Nagaresh began his practice in 1989, was elected as member of Kerala Bar Council in 2011, and was appointed as assistant solicitor general in 2011. Kunhikrishnan's enrolment was in 1989 and has been practising at the HC for 24 years.
The collegium deferred its decision on the candidatures of advocates S Ramesh, Viju Abraham, and George Varghese while it decided not to recommend advocate P Gopal as his average annual income is less than the prescribed income limit for candidates from the Bar.
In the category of judicial officers, T V Anilkumar and N Anil Kumar, who is presently the registrar general of the high court, have been recommended for appointment as HC judges. TNN
