Thrissur: Thiruvambady Devaswom has decided to give compensation to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent explosion at a fireworks unit in Mundathikode, Thrissur.
Thiruvambady Devaswom secretary K Gireeshkumar said five people who were directly associated with the devaswom were killed in the incident in which fireworks items for the display of Thiruvambady side in the Pooram were being prepared.
The family of all these five deceased people will be given Rs 5 lakh each, Gireeshkumar said. The family of the fireworks display contractor Mundathikode Satheesan who was killed in the explosion will also be given Rs 5 lakh each. The families of the remaining 10 staff who were also killed in the explosion will be given Rs 2 lakh each. The injured would be also given support depending on the nature of wounds, Gireeshkumar said.
The announcements were made at a meeting organized jointly by various organisations here on Sunday to pay homage to those killed in the April 21 incident.
Earlier, the state govt had announced a compensation of Rs 14 lakh each to the families of those killed in the accident. The central govt has also announced Rs 2 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. Union minister of state Suresh Gopi also announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each from the funds associated with a trust established in the name of his daughter.
Several private institutions as well as individuals have announced different sums of compensation.
