KOCHI: Students, teachers and writers converged at the Maharaja’s College to mark the first death anniversary of English teacher and poet Sujatha Devi on Sunday. Devi, the younger sister of writer Sugathakumari, died on June 23, 2018 in Thiruvananthapuram.
Elanji saplings were planted at the college in honour of Sujatha teacher’s love for trees. Dr Hari, head of Plant Sciences Department in Calicut University oversaw the planting of the samplings.
Music director Suresh Manimala and writer Priya A Swere among those who planted the saplings.
Mihir Shah, Indian economist and former member of the erstwhile planning commission of India will deliver the first memorial address on Sujatha teacher on July 21 in Kochi. A collection of articles on Sujatha teacher, written by her students and contemporaries, will be release on the day.
