Stone-laying function for new KSRTC terminal postponed?
Kochi: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the much-awaited KSRTC terminal at Karikkamuri did not happen on Saturday. After signing the MoU for the project on Jan 29, authorities had announced that the foundation for the project will be laid on Feb 24.Vyttila Mobility Hub Society (VMHS) had signed the MoU with Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML) and KSRTC for constructing a mobility hub model terminal. CSML is funding the project, which is to be implemented by VMHS through Kerala State Construction Corporation. KSRTC, VMHS, CSML and Kochi corporation officials refused to comment on why the foundation laying function did not happen. Transport minister K B Ganesh Kumar, who was present during MoU signing, was not available for comments despite repeated attempts. “We only fund the project. VMHS is doing the rest of the work,” said a CSML official. Sources said DPR preparation for the project has not been completed yet. It is learnt that the project is yet to get administrative sanction from govt. The demand for a new KSRTC terminal is more than a decade old due to the pathetic condition of the existing KSRTC stand at Ernakulam South. Waterlogging during heavy rain is a major issue faced by passengers and bus operators.
