KOCHI: Kalamassery municipality on Wednesday released the names of eateries that used to source chicken meat from a supplier who was booked on charges of storing stale meat and oil about a week ago. Food safety officials had seized over 500kg of stale and stinking chicken as well as documents, including bills and receipts of the sale of chicken to nearly 49 eateries in Kochi from the supply unit at Kaipadamugal.
Falafil Dubai, Chapati Company, Al Fajar, Ifthar, Barista, Yaseen Vazhakkal, Oberon Mall, Best Bakery, Royal Bakery, Al Salma Hotel, Malabar, Bismi Bakery, Chayakkada (Supreme), Dosa King, Malabar (Edapally), Juicy days, Bin Cafe, Arabian Azka, Turk Cafe, Billian Cafe, Sulthan Grill, Royal MG road, Arabian Dreams, On Routecafe, Malabar plaza, Charcoal, Barakka, MRA Bakery, Fried King, Lala Chick Kalikkavu, AL Dream, K R Bakers, Havens Kitchen, Quba, K R Kakkanad, Kochi Kitchen, Delish, Juicy P N Nagar, Avocado, Foodex, Marhaba, Yinyummy, Shawarmax, Shalimar, Curry Chatty, Saima, Alfas, and Bucket List are the eateries where the accused supplier used to sell meat, as per the ledger book seized from the supplier.
The list was handed over by the civic body to the Kalmassery DYFI block committee secretary.
The health authorities have sealed the supply unit and its owner Junais O of Mannarkkad is still on the run. Food safety authorities inspected the supply unit after neighbours complained of the stench emanating from the house where the stale meat was stored. The seized meat was disposed of at the Brahmapuram waste management plant.
Bakers Association clarifiesMeanwhile, the Bakers Association, Kerala said Royal Bakers, Best Bakery, Royal Food, K R Bakers and MRA Bakery have not bought meat from the accused supplier.
The association’s office bearers said they don’t know how the names of these eateries entered in the list and have demanded an enquiry into it. They said the bakeries under the association buy meat only from suppliers which have
FSSAI licence.
