Speeding car rams several vehicles, kills youth
Kottayam: A youth was killed after a speeding car lost control, ploughed into several vehicles and struck him while he was drinking tea at a roadside tea shop near Pazhaveed Medical Centre in Alappuzha on Monday afternoon.
S Sudheesh, 35, a construction worker from Thakidiveli in Ward 12 of Kanjikuzhy panchayat, was killed at around 3.15 pm. He and his wife, Sujimol, were returning to their home in Muhamma after visiting a relative in Thiruvalla when they stopped for tea at the shop. As Sudheesh leaned against his bike with his tea, the car struck and threw him off. He was rushed to Alappuzha General Hospital but his life could not be saved.
The car, travelling from the Kaithavana area towards Alappuzha, first hit an autorickshaw, then a scooter and a bike before mounting a mud mound and coming to rest. The parked vehicles belonged to others who had also stopped for tea.
The car’s occupants were from Punnamada, Alappuzha. It was being driven by the brother of a pregnant woman on board, who was being taken to hospital with abdominal pain, along with her husband and their child. Alappuzha South police registered a case against the driver.
Sudheesh leaves behind his wife Sujimol (Suja) and children Varundev and Vamika. The body is kept at the General Hospital mortuary and will be handed over to relatives after a postmortem on Tuesday.
