Solar scam money splurged on high life

KOCHI: A total of Rs 5.5 crore out of the Rs 6 crore obtained through cheating by Solar Scam accused Saritha S Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan was spent in pursuit of a luxurious life within a year, with Saritha spending Rs 13 lakh for buying sarees alone. None of the money was used to settle the cases, police has informed the Kerala high court.
Each of Saritha’s shopping sprees footed a bill of Rs 50,000 and she went shopping 26 times in a year, showed the statement filed by senior government pleader Nooranad C Rasheed.
Saritha and Bjiu spent close to Rs 1 crore on a publicity blitz about companies they owned – Team Solar and West Wind.
The court was told that only one out of the 33 cases against Saritha were settled. Many complainants may settle the cases without getting the money back to stay away from controversy, the state government told the HC.
On Tuesday judge Thomas P Joseph granted bail to Saritha in two cases. She would, however, remain behind bars as she is yet to get bail in four more cases.
