Sivankutty inaugurates new school buildings

Kochi: General education minister V Sivankutty inaugurated the new three-storeyed building of Government Higher Secondary School, Elamkunnapuzha, on Saturday. He said the government envisages investing more money and attention in general education in the coming years to make the sector excel. The Rs 2-crore building, spreading over 7,500 sq ft, has classrooms, office rooms and toilets. It was constructed by the Public Works Department. Construction of another building at a cost of Rs 1 crore for lower primary section is underway in the school. Vypeen MLA K N Unnikrishnan had said another Rs 1 crore would be allotted from Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) for constructing another building in the school.Later on the day, the minister also inaugurated a centre, a special platform to achieve classroom experience (SPACE) for bedridden children, at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Njarakkal. The centre has infrastructure facilities, special classrooms arranged with advanced technology and services of special educators, helpers, therapists, counsellors and doctors. The minister also inaugurated a newly building at Government HSS, Manjapra. The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore from KIIFB fund. He also inaugurated a Rs 1.20-crore building at Parakkadavu LP School on Saturday. It was necessitated after the school building suffered damages in the 2018 floods.
