Savaari to hold drives to get more taxis & autos on app
Kochi: Authorities have decided to conduct more drives to encourage taxi and auto drivers to join the state government-supported online taxi service Kerala Savaari in Ernakulam. Around 2,077 operators, including 1,440 taxi driverss have so far joined the Savaari platform. “Our target is to enlist at least 5,000 taxi and auto drivers in all on the Savaari platform in Ernakulam. We are conducting campaigns to spread awareness on the service and encourage the operators to join it. Still, there are some who are skeptical and they are waiting to join the platform once it is launched,” said a source. In some of the camps organized for spot registration in the outskirts of Kochi, only less than 20 operators turned up. The response of autorickshaw owners is even more tepid though there are more autos than taxis in Ernakulam. The service was first introduced in Thiruvananthapuram and the authorities are planning to expand it to Ernakulam and Thrissur. Kerala Motor Transport Workers’ Welfare Fund Board is supervising the initiative. The users will have to download the mobile app to avail of the service of taxis and autos registered with it. Palakkad ITI is providing technical support in implementing the service. A similar local cab aggregator is currently available in Kochi launched in 2021 by the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority as part of the Kochi Open Mobility Network.
