THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man, who was wanted by Kerala police in connection with a rape case was brought back to the country through extradition from the UAE on Saturday. Interpol had issued a ‘red notice’ against the accused, Peeru Muhammed Yahya Khan, 43, early this year. He was accused of raping a mentally challenged girl.

Khan was booked under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and charges of rape in the case registered in Pala police station in 2008.

Kottayam police said Khan, anative of Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram, had brutally raped the girl in Pala in 2008. He used to visit houses for selling utensils and had raped the girl who was alone at her home.

Pala police had arrested him and later he was out on bail and went into hiding. Police found out that he was hiding in Kannur and Malappuram areas before escaping abroad. Interpol had issued a red notice against him in Jan. He was presented before a court in Pala, which remanded him in judicial custody.

CBI coordinated with the Interpol, Kerala police, Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, and the ministry of external affairs to facilitate his return, a statement issued by CBI said.
