‘Randu Nakshathrangal’ selected as best play

Thrissur: ‘Randu Nakshathrangal’ produced by Valluvanad Brahma has been selected as the best play in the just-concluded professional theatre competition organised by Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a sculpture and a citation, the akademi secretary Karivellur Murali said in a press release issued here on Saturday.Rajesh Irulam, who directed the play has been selected as the best director, Pradeepkumar Kavumthara, who authored Kozhikode Rangamithra’s play ‘Pandu Randu Koottukarikal’ has been selected as the best playwright. Both of them will receive a cash prize of Rs 30,000, a citation and sculpture each, Murali said.‘Njan’ produced by Chaithrathara Theatres has been selected as the second-best play. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 30,000, a citation and a sculpture.Rajeevan Mammili who directed Cochin Chandrakantha’s play ‘Nathu Maathan Onnam Sakshi’ has been adjudged as the second-best director. Hemanth Kumar, who authored ‘Randu Nakshathrangal’ has been selected as the second-best playwright. Both of them will receive a cash prize of Rs 20,000, a citation and sculpture, each.Biju Jayanandan who acted in ‘Randu Nakshathrangal’, has been selected as the best actor, while Kalamandalam Sandhya who acted in ‘Mookkuthi’, produced by Kozhikode Rangabhasha, is the best actress. Both of them will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a sculpture and a citation.Kallara Gopan who sang in the KPAC’s play ‘Aparajithar’ has been selected as the best male singer while Subha Raghunath who sang in the plays ‘Chandrikakkumundoru Katha’ and ‘Njan’ is the best female singer. They will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a citation and a sculpture.Sreekumaran Thampi who wrote the lyrics for the song in the KPAC’s play ‘Aparajithar’ has been selected as the best lyricist, while Udayakumar Anchal has been adjudged as the best music director. They will receive Rs 15,000 as cash prize.
