KAYAMKULAM: A misogynistic remark against U Prathibha, MLA, who is the LDF candidate from Kayamkulam, has erupted into a controversy. Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader and constituency UDF convener A Irshad made the objectionable remark at a UDF election convention here on Tuesday. Prathibha has stated that she will proceed with legal action in the matter.The remark was that Prathibha is facing election by putting up her eloquence and physical beauty for sale. Strong protests are being raised against the remark.The convention was organised in connection with the campaign of M Liju and was inaugurated by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal. Irshad also said that Prathibha did not carry out any development work during her tenure as MLA. He also raised criticism pointing to a case against her son.Chief minister and others have come out against the misogynistic remark. Prathibha said the remark is equivalent to insulting the entire women community. She called it the extreme form of character assassination. Prathibha also told media that she will file a complaint with Election Commission.IUML suspends IrshadIUML suspended Irshad from primary membership of the party pending an inquiry on Wednesday evening. Earlier, UDF removed him from UDF Mandalam chairman post. Liju also apologised to Prathibha and society for the remark.
