KOCHI: Suresh Prabhu, union minister of railways, will dedicate the newly-electrified Shoranur-Charuvathur section through video conferencing from Ernakulam Junction railway station on Thursday.

“The minister will dedicate the section between 11.15 am and 11.45 am. A formal function will be staged at Shoranur Junction station in which members of Parliament MB Rajesh, E Ahamed, ET Muhammed Basheer, MK Raghavan, Mullappalli Ramachandran, PK Sreemathi, P Karunakaran, Richard Hey, KK Ragesh and MP Veerendrakumar will be the guests of honour,” said a railway officer.

PK Sasi MLA, Adv K Santhakumari, president, Palakkad district panchayat and V Vimala, chairperson, Shoranur Municipality, will be the distinguished guests.

“The minister will also inaugurate new station building for Nilambur Road station through video conferencing. A formal function will be staged at Nilambur Road station in which MI Shanavas MP and PV Abdul Wahab will be the guests of honour on the occasion. PV Anvar MLA, AP Unnikrishnan, president, district panchayat, Nilambur and Padmini Gopinath, municipal chairperson, Nilambur, will also be the distinguished guests.

“While railways can cut down the operational expense by electrifying the Shoranur-Cheruthuvathur section, we hope that the authorities would introduce more local trains in future and increasing the running speed of the express trains,” said MP Ulahannan, regular passenger in Shoranur-Kozhikode route.
