Kannur: The special investigation team probing the two apparent political murders in Payyannur has arrested two CPM men for attacking houses and commercial establishments at Karivellur.

The attacks were reportedly triggered by the murder of CPM worker Dhanaraj C V (34), at Ramanthali on July 11. Hours after the murder, a gang killed BMS worker Ramachandran.
The police named the arrested duo as T Suresh Kumar and P V Vysakh, both residents of Karivellur. They were arrested in connection with the attack on the house of BJP mandalam president N P Ravindran and on a bakery owned by a BJP worker,
The accused were produced before the judicial first class magistrate court at Payyanur and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Police sources said six others have been detained in connection with the murder of Dhanaraj. The BJP, meanwhile, distanced itself from the murder, saying its workers were being falsely implicated.
