NEW DELHI: A 36-year-old constable allegedly took his own life by shooting himself in Kerala's Malappuram district, police stated on Monday.

Vineeth, who had served as a Thunderbolt commando in the district and subsequently joined the Special Operation Group (SOG), was discovered lifeless in the bathroom of his quarters on Sunday.
Thunderbolt force specialises in anti-Maoist combing operations.

A native of Wayanad district, he was purportedly distressed about being denied leave despite multiple requests, though police have yet to verify this claim.

"He was discovered deceased, having discharged his firearm at himself. The circumstances leading to this drastic action remain under investigation," a police officer stated.

Authorities confirmed that the remains were transferred to the neighbouring government hospital for post-mortem examination, and inquest formalities were finalised.
