Police zero in on gun deal

Kochi: The Ernakulam North Police have widened its probe into the shooting incident at a bar near Kathrikadavu. It is suspected that Kombara Vineeth, the first accused in the case, got the gun from a Kottayam native, who had it from Uttar Pradesh. The Kottayam native got two country-made guns from UP and one of them was given to Vineeth. The police recovered the gun, which he had used to shoot at three employees at the bar two weeks ago, and another gun from the house of Vineeth. Police also launched a probe into the financial dealings between Vineeth and the Kottayam native.On Monday, the police produced Vineeth and three other accused in the case before the court, which sent them to custody. Fifteen people were arrested in the case. Ballistic test results of the gun are expected to be received in a fortnight.Murder accused a history-sheeter?Kochi: Elamakkara police have found that Vijith Xavier Varghese, accused of murdering a security agency supervisor, has two other cases registered against him in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts. M G Manoj of Karnataka was allegedly killed by Vijith by landing several punches on his body over a heated debate after drinking.Case against bus driver for assaultKochi: The Perumbavoor police on Monday registered a case against a bus driver on charges of assaulting another bus driver at Vallam. The incident related to the case took place on the MC Road. Maithri’s driver assaulted the driver of St Thomas, which was on its way from Kalady to Perumbavoor, for starting its journey from Kalady by 30 seconds.
