KOTTAYAM: A Syndicate sub-committee of the M G University here filed a report to the Vice Chancellor of the University confirming that a top cop in the state who wrote an LLM exam resorted to malpractice. The six-page report submitted on Tuesday says that sub-committee on the basis of the examination manual of the Varsity has concluded that inspector general of police, T J Jose was found to have resorted to exam malpractice by bringing material for copying to the examination hall and refusing to handover the material to the invigilator when he was caught copying.

The report says that the officer was found guilty for the "Introduction of material wilfully with the intention of copying in the examination and the possession of the same and then resisting to handover the material to the invigilator".
The IG is facing a disciplinary action of getting debarred for 3 to 6 chances of writing an exam under the Varsity.
As the Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian was away in Thiruvananthapuram to meet the Governor regarding the Off-campus centre issue, the sub-committee handed over the report to the PVC Sheena Shukoor. According to the PVC, either the VC can take action against the officer using the powers of the Syndicate or else the decision could be left for the Syndicate. She also said that University will strictly go by law in this issue.
The officer will be served a show cause notice to which he will have to reply within seven days. The final action of the University will be after getting his reply within the stipulated time.
The report says that the statements of 24 individuals including 5 judicial officers were taken while preparing the report. The seven-member panel was chaired by C H Abdul Lathif.
T J Jose was caught copying by the invigilator at St Paul's College, Kalamassery, about half an hour into the annual LLM examination in the off-campus mode in May this year. The officer was writing an examination on constitutional law.
Based on the incident, the college authorities sent a report to the Controller of Examinations, Mahatma Gandhi University, seeking action against the candidate for malpractices. The Varsity then formed a Syndicate sub-committee to inquire into the incident.
