Plea in HC seeks curbs on Yatra

Kochi: Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is obstructing the movement of vehicles on public roads, a petition filed before the high court by K Vijayan of Mukhathala in Kollam on Tuesday alleged. The march is entering Kochi on Wednesday.The plea filed through advocate C Rajendran will be taken up by a division bench comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly during admission hearing on Thursday.The yatra has caused severe traffic congestion at places through which it has passed, the petitioner alleged. Traffic movement is restricted for hours and this is in violation of a 2011 law that stipulates controls for holding rallies, processions, and meetings on public roads, the petitioner has contended. The law also specifies that the district police chief concerned should ensure that the right of the public to travel is not denied, the petition said.TNN
