Kozhikode: Senior Congress leader Mullappally Ramachandran said that the on-stage scuffle during Puthu Yuga Yatra reception at Kuttiady should have been avoided and added that Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil should not have got provoked in public.
"That sort of pushing and jostling should not have happened on such a stage. Shafi is the MP of that constituency, and he would have wanted to address his constituents. He may have felt that he was denied an opportunity. He should not have got provoked at a function like that," Ramachandran said adding that there was no need for the media to blow the incident out of proportion.

Ramachandran said that the person who presided over the function first invited Kozhikode MP M K Raghavan instead of Vadakara MP to speak and then called former Kuttiady MLA Parakkal Abdullah which could have hurt Shafi and triggered the reaction.
The incident happened at the reception accorded to the UDF's Puthu Yuga Yatra led by opposition leader V D Satheesan on Feb 11. Shafi expressed his displeasure allegedly over the delay in inviting him to address the gathering.
