KOTTAYAM: An employee at the office of the deputy director of education in Idukki - senior superintendent P H Ismail - was on Thursday suspended from service in connection with the death of a headmistress allegedly due to mental torture and threat from senior officials.
Director of public instructions Gopalakrishna Bhatt issued the suspension order.

The mother of E P Pushpalatha, the headmistress of Kunchithanni government school, who died on Tuesday following a brain haemorrhage, had filed a complaint with the DPI that mental torture by officials who came on an inspection to the school had led to the death.
Ismail and administrative assistant K N Sasidharan had visited the school on Friday. The DPI has also submitted a report about Sasidharan to the government.
Meanwhile, SFI activists gheraoed Idukki deputy director of education Anila George at her office in Thodupuzha for over an hour demanding action against the two officials. Police arrested and removed 15 SFI activists.
