‘No plan to arrest jail superintendent’
Kochi: The police informed the high court that they did not intend to arrest Raju Abraham, the jail superintendent of the district jail at Kakkanad in Kochi, in connection with allegations that he and Jail DIG P Ajayakumar had accorded special privileges to businessman Boby Chemmanur during his incarceration.Recording the police submission, the bench of Justice P V Kunhikrishnan on Wednesday closed Raju Abraham's pre-arrest bail plea.Previously, the Infopark police, Kochi, had registered a case against Jail DIG P Ajayakumar, Raju Abraham and four other identifiable men, along with two women, based on these allegations. According to the FIR, on Jan 10, Ajayakumar, along with other accused persons, visited Chemmanur in the office of jail superintendent Raju Abraham while Chemmanur was in custody in a case involving allegedly sexually coloured remarks against an actor. It was further alleged that a Rs 200 note was handed over to Chemmanur, violating jail rules. Both officials were previously suspended, pending inquiry.
