: Even after two weeks into the murder attempt on former CPM leader

, who contested as independent candidate from Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency, the police investigation has not made any progress. Nazeer had even alleged that there were efforts to protect the accused and he would move high court seeking justice.

“Though I have clearly named the people behind the conspiracy to eliminate me, police have not taken any initiatives to even question them, and they have almost stopped the investigation after two namesake arrests, when I named a prominent party leader,” he said.

“The sad thing is that the culprits are roaming freely even as the police claim that they are investigating the case. Hence, only a CBI probe can unravel the conspiracy,” he added. He said he would move HC soon, seeking a CBI probe.

“Even if the CPM conducts an inquiry, as it is being rumoured, I don’t think it would bring me justice because they would never trace the truth, instead would save the criminals,” Nazeer said.

Though the police were expected to take a detailed statement of Nazeer, it is yet to be done and they claimed that they were investigating the case.

“I believe that it was some internal issues in the CPM, which led to the attack on me and I want the exact reason to be brought to the fore,” he said, hinting that somebody wanted to implicate a senior leader in the case.

However, the CPM leaders, who said the party had no role in the attack, remained silent on the issue.

Nazeer was attacked at Kayyath Road in

Thalassery

on the evening of May 18 and he was admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital with serious injuries. However, now he is stable and taking rest at home.
