KOTTAYAM: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has strongly objected to the stand of the CPM-led government for trivialising their protest against state assembly speaker A N Shamseer's alleged controversial remarks on Hindu gods.
NSS has decided to observe August 2 as Faith Protection Day.
NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair wrote to the presidents of all taluk unions of the NSS regarding this on Tuesday.
In the letter, he urged community members to observe Wednesday as Faith Protection Day, visit temples of Lord Ganesha in their locality, make offerings to the god, and pray for the protection of faith. He also reminded all not to indulge in any action that leads to religious hatred or provocation.
In the letter, Nair stated that the reference made by Speaker A N Shamseer about deity Lord Ganesha has deeply hurt the community.
His statement that Ganesha was a myth and not based on any scientific facts has hurt everyone. This reference was inappropriate coming from anyone.
On Monday, NSS had asked the speaker to withdraw his statement and apologise for the references he made, or else they wanted the government to take action.
However, no action was taken on this matter. Nair expressed that NSS strongly protests against the concerned authorities who trivialized their demand.
Nair, in his letter, urged the presidents of karayogams to take necessary action and pass the message to all residents under the karayogam on Tuesday itself.
Responding to the statement of CPM state secretary M V Govindan that myths shouldn't be incorporated as part of history and assumptions should be considered as assumptions, Nair said that the statement lacked logic.
He emphasized that dismissing the centuries-old beliefs of any religion in the name of scientific facts will affect the very existence of that section of society. Making intrusion into the beliefs of any particular religion and hurting its believers cannot be approved.
He also stated that the references made by A K Balan on the topic do not warrant an answer.
