MVD stages play to create traffic rule awareness

Kochi: The motor vehicles department has come up with a telematic play to spread awareness about road safety and saving lives. The official launch of the play ‘Jeevaksharangal’ was held by regional transport officer (Ernakulam) Ananthakrishnan during Kunnathunad Onam festival hosted at Kolenchery on Monday.A telematic play refers to a live performance (art, dance, music, etc.) which makes use of telecommunications and information technology. Here, in the play, which revolves around the accidental death of a youngster, telecommunication techniques were used by the organizers to convey the intended message.The characters in the short play are played by Kudumbashree workers from Mazhuvannoor panchayat. The play was directed by Binoy Pattimattom and it was scripted by North Paravur motor vehicle inspector N Vinod Kumar. The lyrics and music direction were done by retired assistant motor vehicle inspector Sathyan.“The number of accidents is increasing these days and most of these accidents could be averted by being a bit more careful while driving and obeying traffic rules. In most cases, the victims are youngsters and our play intends to address them. The play’s duration is around 45 minutes so that people could easily watch it without spending much time like a conventional play. We decided to cast Kudumbashree workers as the actors as they are those people who constantly mingle with all sections of the society hence, spreading the message,” Ananthakrishnan said.The play will be staged in several places including public spaces, colleges, etc. in the coming days. Staging will be held across the state with the support of respective RTOs.
