Music composer P K Kesavan Namboothiri dies

Kochi: Music composer P K Kesavan Namboothiri, of Perunthalakkattu Mana, Parasseri, in Palakkad, who is known for his Hindu devotional albums ‘Pushpanjali’ and ‘Vanamala’, died at a hospital in Thrissur on Sunday. He was 84.
Namboothiri, who has worked at the Thrissur and Kozhikode units of All India Radio, shot to fame after the release of the devotional album ‘Pushpanjali’ in 1981.
All 10 songs, including ‘Vighneswara Janma Nalikeram’ and ‘Neyyattinkara Vazhum’, penned by S Rameshan Nair were sung by P Jayachandran, and all of them still top the devotional hit chart.
“All the songs in Pushpanjali became a part of Malayali’s life since the release of the album. Even the back ground music of the songs is familiar to the listeners,” said lyricist B K Harinarayanan.
In 1983, Namboothiri, Rameshan Nair and Yesudas combined to bring out ‘Vanamala’, which turned out to be another hit.
