, Kalady, are set to get a new outlook as Tresspassers, a group of seven youths who have passed out from the fine arts department of the varsity, are beautifying them with their wall murals. Tresspassers, who intends to popularize wall murals in public spaces, are known for their works at various spots in Kalady town. Realizing their talent, the varsity authorities asked them to do the paintings inside the campus as part of beautification works.
The plan is to create six large paintings on the walls of the academic blocks, language blocks and library building with the themes of Kerala's culture, geography, literary works, freedom struggle, etc. Two paintings have been completed and the rest will be completed within two months.
"We created Tresspassers with the aim to bring art galleries to the streets and popularize wall murals. We consider it a privilege to fill our campus with our own paintings. The paintings will be named only after the completion of the works," said Vishnupriyan K, one of the team members.
Other members of the group are Ambady Kannan, Arjun Gopi, Bashar, Sreerag P, Sijoy Paulose, and Amit T.
One of the completed paintings features a pond filled with water lilies (Ambalkulam), which has a lot of prominence in the literatures since the Sangam Age. "The painting portrays the intensity of environmental pollution. The water lily symbolizes the pure environment and the painting shows how drainages are opened to the pond and garbage is dumped into it," Vishnupriyan said.
