Minister’s broken promise caused more anguish than medical error: Harshina
Kottayam: The mental anguish caused by minister Veena George's failure to follow up after promising support was greater than the medical error of leaving a forceps in the stomach, said Kozhikode-native K K Harshina, who had a forceps left in her abdomen during surgery.Harshina was speaking to the media while attending an election campaign event for Abin Varkey, UDF's Aranmula candidate, in Pathanamthitta on Monday. Despite assurances, the minister never bothered about her in the four years after that, she said. Harshina said her education, career and family life were all ruined due to the medical error. She said she had no political affiliations, the pain she suffered was her politics. Varkey, who stood by her like a brother during her four-year struggle for justice, is the kind of representative people need, she said.Varkey accused the health minister of insulting a woman who underwent a C-section after experiencing labour pains. He said the minister's statement about providing what was needed was false. Varkey said George's remarks were equivalent to insulting women and that one couldn't stand idly when womanhood was demeaned.
