KOCHI: With the cyclone Biparjoy expected to form and move northwards along the west coast, IMD has issued warning for rough seas and gale winds along the coast.

Fishermen have been asked not to venture out into sea and those out have been asked to return to the nearest coast.

Yellow alerts and warnings for heavy rainfall of 7 to 11cm have been issued till Saturday. Officials said that this could intensify the southwest monsoon winds in the region. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Kerala coast.

Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty winds speed reaching 30-40 Kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala and Lakshadweep till Saturday. Gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph is likely to prevail over east central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of southeast Arabian Sea. It is likely to become 80-90 kmph gusting to 100kmph from Wednesday night.

INCOIS has issued warnings that sea condition is likely to be rough over south Arabian Sea, along and off north Kerala, Karnataka, Goa coasts, Lakshadweep and Maldives areas.

Yellow alerts have been issued for Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha on Wednesday, Alappuzha and Ernakulam on Thursday, Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam on Friday and Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ranni recorded the highest of 7cm rainfall while Mancompu recorded 6cm rainfall on Tuesday.
