KOCHI: The pro-life committee of the Kerala catholic bishops' council (KCBC) has asked the state government to take immediate measures to prevent female foeticide in the state. The government should take the initiative to control illegal sex-determination clinics and should spread awareness about the ill-effects of female foeticide, pointed out the meeting of the committee held in Kochi on Tuesday.The committee would send a ten-point memorandum to the union and state governments and to the heads of health, finance, self-governance and social welfare departments in this regard. Making a fixed deposit of Rs 2 lakh each in the name of the girl child at the time of birth by both governments is one of the suggestions in the memorandum.
The meet also asked the state government to take immediate measures to implement guidelines in the Supreme Court verdict of March 4 this year. The committee also will conduct classes to create awareness in this regard.
