In 2016, he had a dramatic victory in the assembly election by defeating BJP leader K Surendran by a slender margin of 89 votes. Following this, Surendran moved court, alleging electoral fraud, and the case is pending in the court. But Razak was least bothered about such controversies and bought a new Innova car, for which he got the registration number 89.
Thousands paid homage when the body of the departed leader was kept at IUML office at Manjeshwaram. Ministers E Chandrasekharan and Ramachandran Kadannappally, IUML leaders PK Kunhalikutty and MK Muneer and opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, among others arrived to pay the last respects.
In a condolence message, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan remembered Razak as someone who was so keen about the development and social issues of Kasaragod.
KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said Razak was a role model for public servants.
