Man arrested for brutally assaulting 15-year-old son in Idukki

Idukki: A man brutally assaulted his 15-year-old son at Udumbannoor in Idukki under the influence of alcohol. The boy, who sustained serious injuries in the incident, is currently undergoing treatment in hospital with multiple injuries on his body. Karimannoor police have arrested the boy's father over the incident. According to reports, the father returned home drunk and attacked his son using a chair and a wooden stick, inflicting injuries to his hands and back. The incident occurred around 7.30pm on Sunday. The boy's mother stated that the assault was triggered by the child returning home late. She also said that the attack could have been more severe, but she intervened when he attempted to strike the boy on the head. As the assault continued, neighbours rushed to the house at which point the injured boy managed to escape by jumping over a wall and running onto the road. Following the incident, residents and the boy's mother informed the ward member and the police. Karimannoor police reached the spot, recorded statements and registered a case. Police officers said the accused has been taken into custody and that there are indications he had a history of physically abusing his son while under the influence of alcohol. Investigation is ongoing.
