Man arrested for attempt to murder

The Angamaly police on Thursday arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder a man by hacking him using a country-made sickle.

KOCHI: The Angamaly police on Thursday arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder a man by hacking him using a country-made sickle. The accused, Martin Joseph, had hacked Ashik Manoharan following a previous rivalry on Tuesday.
The incident happened on November 1 at a toddy shop here. Manoharan along with his friend was at the shop as foreign liquor outlets were closed for the day.

The accused went to the shop and hacked the victim. Manoharan is admitted to a private hospital in Angamaly.
The police said that the accused was at large after the incident.
He was planning to leave for Mumbai from Aluva railway station when he was arrested.
"Joseph is a history-sheeter and was booked with similar offences earlier as well," said a police officer.
He was presented before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
Ganja peddler held: A 37-year-old man was arrested from North Paravoor for allegedly peddling ganja to students in Aluva and Paravoor on Thursday. More than 1 kg of the contraband has been seized from his possession.
Manaf Puthuveetil was arrested while trying to sell ganja to a customer. The Aluva police received information about the accused carrying the contraband in a sports utility vehicle in North Paravoor. He was presented before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
An FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act has been filed in this regard.
