KOTTAYAM: A Malayali nurse and her two children were found dead at Kettering in Northamptonshire, the UK, on Thursday. The woman's husband has been arrested on suspicion of the triple murder.
It was
Anju Asok (39), native of Kulasekharamangalam near Vaikom in Kottayam district, son Jeeva (6) and daughter Janvi (4) who were found with serious injuries in their house by police. Anju's husband Saju Chelavalel (52), native of Iritty in Kannur, was arrested in connection with the incident.
The official website of Northamptonshire Police said that a murder investigation has been launched in Kettering following the death of a woman and two children. Police officers were called to Petherton Court at 11:15am on December 15 where a woman and two children were found with serious injuries.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics and police officers, the woman died at the scene and the two children died later in hospital. A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and remains in police custody. At this time, officers are not seeking anyone else.
"Detectives are currently questioning the man we arrested. However, anyone with any information is encouraged to contact us, said Steve Freeman, superintendent, local policing area commander.
"I want to be absolutely clear on our unwavering commitment in establishing what has happened here and in seeking justice for this woman and these young children," he added. Forensic postmortem examinations to establish the cause of death will take place in the coming days.
Anju and
Saju got married in 2012 and they both worked in Bengaluru. Later, they moved to Saudi Arabia where Anju worked as a nurse at a hospital while Saju worked in a private company. They moved to the UK in 2021. Anju started working as a nurse at a hospital in Kettering while Saju was working as a driver. The children joined their parents in June this year. Jeeva was in class one and Janvi had joined kindergarten.
Anju's father Ashokan said that his daughter had informed him four months ago that Saju had lost his job. Saju was short tempered and Anju was under mental pressure due to this, he said.
The couple had tried to contact him on Wednesday. However, Ashokan couldn't pick up the call due to heavy showers and lightning that day. They had sent him the video of the grandchildren going to school through WhatsApp. He was expecting their call on Thursday. Efforts are being made to bring the mortal remains to the native, he said.
