KOTTAYAM: The new Priest Trustee,

Laity Trustee

and the Managing committee members of the

Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church

will be elected during the Association meeting of the church to be held here on March 1.

Around 5,000 delegates representing the Dioceses of the church across the globe will take part in the elections which has an episcopal nature as well as a democratic character. The elected will serve for a period of five years. The managing committee of 141 comprises of 47 priests and 94 laities. The elections will be held in the specially erected temporary hall for the elections in the compound of

Mar Elia Cathedral

here. The results of the elections will be declared on the same day.

Malankara Metropolitan Baselios Marthoma Paulose II have appointed K T Chacko IAS as the returning officer for the elections. Around 43 polling booths will be arranged at the venue. Polling will be through secret ballot.

The candidates contesting for the post of priest trustee are the current trustee Fr Johns Abraham Konat, Fr M O John and Joseph Samuel Karukayil Cor Episcopa.

For the Laity Trustee post, George Paul and Roy M Mathew Muthoottu are contesting.
