Major fire breaks out in commercial building in Kerala's Kakkanad
KOCHI: A major fire broke out at a commercial building at Kinfra Export Promotion Industrial Park, near InfoPark in Kakkanad on Saturday evening. Three people including a fireman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
The fire was broke out at a two storey building GEO Info Park, where many IT companies function. It is learnt that the cause of fire is a short circuit. It is suspected that the fire first broke out at a bathroom on the ground floor and was spreading to other parts of the building. Thick smoke billowed out of the building.
More than 10 fire engines have been pressed into action to douse the fire which engulfed the whole building. Fire force officials said they could not get into the building due to the blaze and the dowsing works were carried out from outside. A fire official said they searched the building and could not find any one trapped in the building .
While district disaster management authorities said they are monitoring the situation. Of the three injured, the fireman got burn injuries and he took treatment in a nearby private hospital. While two others got injured from glass shards when they smashed a window to escape from the smoke.
Meanwhile complaints are raised against GEO Info park authorities, who TOI tried to contact over phone but in vain.
It is alleged that short circuit incidents used to take place very often leading to damages to laptops and other items of various companies functioning in the building. “Our complaints to the authorities of the building always went unheeded. There are issues with the electric wiring in the building. We used to request them to rectify it. Despite sending mails citing the issue, they are reckless. They would not respond to the mails,” said a staff member in a startup firm functioning in the building.
