Locally designed green initiatives needed to address climate change impact: Kochi mayor
Kochi: Kochi mayor V K Minimol delivered keynote address at the concluding session of World Climate Cities Forum 2026 held in Yeosu, Republic of Korea, on Wednesday. The event, which began on Tuesday, was attended by delegates from various countries."We must prioritise locally led green transformation ventures to address challenges posed by climate change. When devising strategies for green transformation, integration of public policy, private sector participation and active civil society involvement is crucial. Experiences in Kochi demonstrate the significant role local govt institutions can play in implementing global climate agendas," the mayor stated.Minimol shared exemplary models implemented by Kochi corporation towards a carbon-free future at the forum. She also engaged in detailed discussions about climate resilience projects with city officials and international experts from foreign countries. Conference was jointly organised by Yeosu municipality and ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) Korea. The mayor attended the conference upon a special invitation from ICLEI South Asia.
