Abida's plea claimed that Rahman was taken into custody on Oct 9 regarding matrimonial issues between them. The next day, the station house officer of Chetlat police station summoned her to discuss the matter. When she arrived at the police station with relatives, Rahman was not present, and the police informed them that he had been taken to a hospital due to an unstable condition. Her relatives rushed to the hospital, but they could not locate him. On Oct 11, the police informed her that her husband had jumped into the sea while in custody and was now missing.

Abida alleged that her husband had been mistreated by the police while in custody and that the story of him jumping into the sea was fabricated. She requested a directive from the court to form a special team to conduct a thorough investigation into the case. She also emphasized that her husband is an experienced diver who can swim in deep sea conditions, asserting that it was highly unlikely he would have drowned in the lagoon area of Chetlat Island.
