KOCHI

: As the Indian Space Research Organization's (Isro young scientist programme, Yuvika 2019, kicks off on Monday, the three students selected from the state for it are a jubilant lot and are looking forward to pick basic lessons on space science, besides having a glimpse of the space research organization's centres and meeting up with space scientists.

The three students, Eldho Mathew Binoy, Anugraha Anish and Alan C Raju are among some 100-odd students who have been selected for the programme from across the country. As many as 24 students would complete the programme at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), one of the four nodal centres for the programme.

VSSC deputy director CR Thomas said: "As announced by Isro chairman K Sivan, the two-week long programme, to be held from May 13-26 will cover the basics of space science and technology, besides giving a chance to the students to interact with scientists and visit Isro facilities."

session led by retired space scientist V P Balagangadharan and the participants introduced themselves. It was interesting," he said.

Eldho, who is set to join Class X, has also won prizes at the children science congress besides winning the Isro state-level space science quiz. "I am keen to become a space scientist and to join Isro. At school, Nikesh sir has always encouraged me," he added.

His roommate Neeraj Ram, a Class X student of the Government HS School in Andamans, who has also been selected for the programme, said: "Kerala is a beautiful place. The initial session at the VSSC was nice and I am look forward for more."Alan C Raju from GHSS Parappa in Kasaragod, said: "I have been always interested in space science and had a fancy for rockets since childhood. My mother supports me in my studies." Alan has won several prizes conducted by science clubs and science congresses.

Anugraha Anish, a student of Class IX from GHSS Poochapra in Idukki, said: "It was a pleasant surprise to get selected from Kerala for the young scientist's programme." "Anugraha was a class topper and has good aptitude in science which was noticeable since Class IV," said her teacher Sunitha K K.
