Kochi Metro Rail Limited

(KMRL) has formed

Kochi Metro cycle club

. The club formed for the

employees

of

KMRL

was formally inaugurated on Sunday.


Launching the programme, DIG Ernakulam K Mahesh Kumar recalled how he started

cycling

as a hobby. "After I suffered an injury in an attack in Kashmir they told I may not walk again. A senior official guided me to cycling and now I can cycle kilometres" he said.

KMRL managing director Alkesh Kumar Sharma and his wife Prashansa Alkesh cycled to

Muttom

all the way from their home at Thevara. also joined them and reached Muttom. Both officers who are avid cyclists, shared their experiences and importance of cycling as a hobby and exercise. Sharma who rode 101 kms last week said the club is aimed at encouraging cycling as a hobby.

This pandemic is showing the importance of fitness. "We are encouraging our people to do exercise whether it is walking, running or cycling. KMRL wants to achieve number one status in terms of the health of employees also, he added.

"Apart from the health benefits Cycling is also a great hobby. I try to cycle wherever I am posted," he said urging the participants to cycle more and challenge themselves.

Close to 50 people are there in the cycle club now. Following the Covid restrictions KMRL employees in small groups cycled from their homes on the club formation day.
