Kochi corporation authorities to expedite procedures for plan fund project

Kochi: The election notification, which is expected within a few days, may become a hurdle in the way of the plan fund project implementation of Kochi corporation. Owing to it, the authorities are planning to expedite the process and complete as many procedures before the election notification is out.According to sources with the civic body, the corporation budget will be presented in the last week of Feb. "Allotments for various components of the plan fund projects should be included in the budget. Once the budget is passed, we will be able to complete other procedures like convening a development committee and obtaining council nod to the plan fund projects," said M G Aristotle, member, finance standing committee of the corporation.
Even if the corporation completes all these procedures before the issuance of election notification, getting the approval from the district planning committee (DPC) will be difficult. Chances are high for the notifications being issued before the corporation places the plan fund projects before DPC for its approval. A few days back, a meeting chaired by district panchayat president K G Radhakrishnan, gave approval for the amendment of the annual plan (2025-26) of 103 local bodies. Approval was also given for the health grant and waste management projects of 67 local govt institutions. This will help those local bodies to complete the on-going projects by the end of the fiscal.
