KMRL extends Metro train services to 11pm from Feb 15
Kochi: In the wake of steady increase in ridership and growing passenger demand, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has announced that Metro train services will be available up to 11pm from Feb 15, 2026, onwards. Accordingly, the last services from Aluva Metro station and Tripunithura Terminal Metro station will depart at 11pm. At present, the last services from these stations depart at 10.30pm.Meanwhile, there are also demands for starting Metro services early in the day, citing that the same would be beneficial to a lot of commuters heading to Ernakulam Junction and Town railway stations.
"Several long-distance trains depart from Ernakulam Junction early in the morning. As the number of private buses operating in the city has come down, Kochi Metro should start operations at 5am to facilitate the commuters," said V C Jayendran, secretary, Tripunithura Rajanagari Union of Residents Association (TRURA). Currently the Metro services on weekdays start at 6am while the same on Sundays commence trips by 7.30am. Meanwhile, in view of the Shivaratri festival, the Kochi Metro will run special services to and from Aluva for the convenience of devotees. On Sunday (Shivaratri), the last service from Tripunithura Terminal will depart at 11:30pm. The services will commence early from Aluva Metro station at 4am on Monday and operate until 6am at a frequency of 30 minutes. Thereafter, trains will run as per the regular schedule. "KMRL reiterates its commitment to providing safe, reliable and passenger-friendly services, particularly during major festivals and public events," a Metro spokesperson said.
