KIIFB approves 3.44cr for city beautification projects
Kochi: Greater Cochin Development Authority's (GCDA) two major projects under the urban rejuvenation and beautification scheme received the approval of Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) on Thursday.Administrative approval was granted for the renovation of M K Arjunan Master Ground and Cultural Centre at Rs 2.69 crore, and for the construction of the Kasturba Nagar Walkway project at Rs 75 lakh. The first project, which is spread across 1.59 acres in Palluruthy, aims to renovate the ground and stage as a tribute to M K Arjunan Master, who made significant contributions to Malayalam film music and theatre, and to establish a cultural centre to promote traditional arts. According to a press note issued by GCDA, the plan includes creating a venue for workshops, music sessions, mega events, renowned art performances, exhibitions, and educational programmes."All constructions will be disabled-friendly. A walkway will be built around the turf. An open gym, amphitheatre, children's play area, and security cabin will also be included. High mast lights, more bollard lights, and lamp posts will be installed. The aim is to generate revenue through various means such as renting the ground, stage, and multi-purpose hall, conducting monthly flea markets, and by placing advertising boards to cover maintenance and other expenses," a GCDA source said. The agency plans to complete the project in eight months.Meanwhile, the construction of the Kasturba Nagar Walkway will be developed on land earlier acquired for the Bund Road widening project at Chilavannur. A 135-metre stretch towards Thevara, continuing from Shihab Thangal Walkway, will be developed as part of the project. The main components include a walkway and a cycle track nearby. Solar-powered bollard lights and streetlights will be installed on both sides of the walkway. Seating facilities and waste bins will be made from reusable plastic. Diamond mesh fencing will be installed on the sides to protect the drainage from litter. The project will also be completed within eight months.
